Additional Therapies

There are several additional therapies offered in certain Heritage Hall facilities. Please read below to see what we offer and if the facility you’re interested in provides that service.

VitalStim Therapy is a safe and effective treatment for patients suffering with difficulty swallowing or dysphagia. It was developed in response to the 15 million Americans living with dysphagia today. VitalStim Therapy is a non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy cleared to market by the FDA in December 2002. The therapy uses specifically designed electrodes applied to the muscles of the throat to promote proper swallowing. No other NMES therapy or electrode carries FDA clearance for the treatment of dysphagia. Available at our Grundy, Virginia Beach, Big Stone Gap, Blacksburg, Blackstone, Leesburg, and Clintwood locations.

Lymphedema Treatment – Lymphedema is excessive accumulation of tissue fluid due to a disorder of the lymphatic vessels or nodes and is a chronic condition. It will usually worsen over time if left untreated.

Complex Decongestive Physiotherapy
is the conservative treatment of choice for lymphedema. CDP involves a regime of manual therapy, medical compression (bandaging or wrapping of the area), skin care, patient education, and isotonic exercises. The effectiveness of this modality is well documented in medical and professional journals and is considered the “gold standard” of care in medicine today. Available at our Blacksburg location.

Myofascial Release
is a gentle, hands on approach used to free up restrictions in the connective tissue throughout the body. The therapist releases the tight fascia by applying sustained pressure into the fascial barrier or restriction, allowing permanent elongation of the tissues. As additional fascial layers are released, the client gains greater flexibility. This results in decreased pain, enhanced daily functional abilities, refined athletic performance, increased ease of movement and improved structural balance and integrity. Available at our Laurel Meadows location.
